Why Are Relationships So Important?
I think we can all agree that being a human is the most challenging thing we will ever do. Of all the elements of this whole human experience thing, relationships are among some of the most difficult, beautiful and rewarding, definitely with others, but especially with ourselves. When you think about it, the concept of relationship is ultimately the central theme of being human.
The glue that holds it altogether.
We relate to everything around us, everyday, all the time.
Relationships are what intertwines and connect us all to each other and the universe.
But relationships aren’t just limited to people.
I find that often when we say “relationship” we consider one of two things. Either the notion of “being in a relationship” in a romantic sense, or the relationship with another person (or people), and while yes, of course these are integral forms of relationship in our life, I think it is also important to think about the way we relate to all that is around us.
Think about it, outside of your personal relationships with family, friends, lovers, enemies, coworkers, acquaintances, even strangers, you have relationships with every single thing that comprises your life. Your work, your school, your pets, your home, your thoughts, the words that you use, your routine, your hobbies, your responsibilities, the list goes on and on.
The thing that all of these relationships have in common is you. Your core values, your core beliefs, your emotions, these all shape and are shaped by the relationships in your life, both with others and yourself.
So how do you notice all of this showing up in your own life? When was the last time you took a moment to really reflect and consider how the relationships in your life may be impacting your overall well-being?
If you’re not quite sure how to answer that or aren’t even sure where to start, I got you!
